Boys vs. Girls Part 2

So last night Regan and I took the kids to the park and as I was pushing them on the swings, one of Riley's friends came up to him and said in these exact words, "Riley, why is your mom so fat?" Riley looked at his friend and just shrugged his shoulders. Okay, even Sunny, whom is 2 years old knows that there is indeed a baby in my belly and she will rub it and give it kisses and talk to our baby, which is in my belly! How could my 4 year old not defend me and say, "My mamma isn't fat, she has a baby in there!!!" But NO--this goes back to the sensitivity issue I think. If Sunny were more aware of the situation last night, I know she would have defended me, but instead, I couldn't let this friend think that I was fat, so I stood up for myself and said, "Riley's mom isn't fat, I just have a baby in my tummy!"

When I was about ready to have Daniel something really similar happened to me. We were at a family dinner for Cub Scout day camp on the last day and this kid (he must have been about 7) asked my "why is your tummy so fat." I looked at him and said "because there's a baby in there." Well, his eyes got really big and he repeated "a baby?!" I decided he must lead a really sheltered life (or be an only child) if he had never seen a pregnant woman before.

Andrea - I found your blog on Kris's site and was so excited to read all about your cute family. Riley cracks me up...true boy! And what a little angel Sunny is. I'm anxious to hear what #3 will be.

Oh Andrea! What a bummer that you are still throwing up. Hang in there and I'm glad that little Sunny is taking care of you!

I am not really sure that it's just a boy thing?...My oldest daughter is sometimes so insensitive too. Not always, but she too has her moments. I'm hoping it's just a phase! Hang in there!!!

Thank goodness he didn't say, "Yeah, my mom has a big fat belly" like my daughter said when I was pregnant...and she's 5! You only have a month to go! YEAH.

Wow, now that is funny. You really know what kids are going to say or think.

That boy vs girl comment is bullcrap!!!!!

Andrea is never sensitive to my needs as her husband. Maybe some women out there can give her some pointers.

Just kidding!!!!!!!!!!

Boys will be boys - last night Hayden said you know what guys (talking to his bros) sometimes mom's not the best cook huh?! I had to turn my head and laugh dinner wasn't that great after all. I just have to say you just gotta love those boys!!
