So thanks to my friend Courtney who just moved into our ward, Pinterest, and my new fave DIY blog {house of smiths} I convinced myself and Regan that I had to redo the hallway, bathroom and laundrey room door this weekend! In the thick of the painting part, I was seriously asking myself WHY I do this to myself! WHY to I make myself paint while trying to be a mom of 4 children? But after everything was all cleaned up and I stood back to admire my awesome work, I was happy with my decision! Even Regan said that he liked it which is a major plus to me because usually when I get into these projects, he wants to know when I am going to be finished and do the touch up work! Anyway, these are the things I changed about my house this weekend:
1.The Red wall in the main bathroom had to go! I am over the color red, so I painted the whole bathroom GREY! Who would have thought that Grey is a cute color, but coupled with the right accent colors, it is actually a great color! I want to add a mustard yellow accent somewhere in the bathroom! Because grey does not match with tan, I had to paint the baseboards white and had to paint the door black! Once the door was painted black, it just didn't look right to me, so I got some sandpaper and went to town distressing the door so it looked weathered and old! I love the way everything turned out in this room!!!
2. I painted the hallway wall a sea blue and then stenciled damask in white and grey on top. The big stencil on the top will have a vinyl F for Fackrell in the middle once I find it! {Anyone have access to a vinyl F?}
The stenciling wasn't fun, but with patience, it came together! To tell you the truth, I am still not in LOVE with this wall, but I think it will come soon!
3. My favorite thing about this DIY weekend is the BLUE DOOR for my laundry room! I absolutely LOVE the way the distressing with black glaze turned out! It just looks like an old farm door right in our kitchen! I was nervous to use the black glaze since I have NEVER used it before, but it turned out just how it looked in my head!!!
The board you see in the hallway is my big purchase this year at Swiss Days! I saw this huge magnet board and instantly knew that I needed it in my house! It just looked like my style, plus, I have a ton of family pictures that I have needed to frame and hang up and this is such an easier way of doing that. When a picture is out of date, how easy will it be to just take it off of the board and rehang a new one instead of reframing it? When it came this weekend, I was happy and nervous at the same time! Happy because it finally came and I couldn't wait for it to be up in my house and nervous that Regan was going to have to hang it! Let's just say that even with Regan's positive outlook on everything in life, there are 2 things in life that are not so positive for him. 1.} taking family pictures and 2.} hanging pictures so you can see why I was so nervous! Let's just say that it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't too happy either. His stud finder was telling him where the stud was, and when he went to nail, he would go through dry wall!!! So he finally found the stud and mounted it and now it looks awesome! Love swiss days!
For those of you who don't know what DIY stands for {Do it yourself} and I highly recommend it because the satisfaction of standing back and looking what you have done once a project is finished is priceless!
